With products being sold word wide, Product Performance Testing have become an important part of product development when bringing a new product to the market.
Timeline for Product Performance Testing
Testing should be initiated early in the product development phase, and continue until launch of the product. By starting early and considering all potential markets when defining the performance testing, unnecessary delays can be avoided as well as cost associated with nonconforming product in the market.
Defining Performance Testing
Performance testing could be defined based on potential risks defined in the FMEA. For example a product that will be used in both the Middle East and Antarctica, need to incorporate the range of temperature and humidity from those places in the performance testing.
Testing can also be used to compare a product with one from the competitor. Testing could be used to see if your product performs better in specific markets than your competitors, or if a particular function of your product is superior to theirs.
