Milk Run is a term used for the delivery method, and comes from the method of delivering the daily needed milk. A Milk Run is defined as traveling the shortest distance and with the maximum demand in the truck.
Milk Run is one of the lean tools with the purpose to increase the supply frequency without increasing the cost.

Strategy of Milk Run

Instead of delivering goods to costumers on individual tours from the supplier, Milk Runs are created where each truck involved cover part of the deliveries in a closed traffic loop.

Benefits from Milk Run

  • Increased delivery frequency does not affect the freight cost
  • Inventory turnover is increased
  • Decreased amount if stock
